Prerequisites

Check and execute the following steps before setting up the API connection:

  • Determine the permissions that the API user should have in your deployment. In deployments where all requests are to be approved by Key Manager administrators before execution, the set of permissions required by the API user is significantly smaller. The API user will require additional permissions if some requests may be executed without approval by Key Manager administrators, such as requests submitted using the Direct delegation.

For more information about the permissions required by the API user, see Creating a Key Manager API User.

  • Determine whether you will use an API token or SSL certificates for establishing API connections. Both options offer the same functionality. The API token may be somewhat easier to set up.

If you are opting to use SSL certificates, we strongly suggest obtaining trusted certificates from your CA. Self-signed certificates may be used for evaluation deployments.
