Setting Up Key Manager Servers

This chapter covers the instructions for setting up Key Manager Servers in a way that is recommended for production environments. The section provides guidelines for setting up a remote database for use with Key Manager, followed by instructions for setting up Key Manager Servers.

A Key Manager Server is a machine that runs a Key Manager back end, or a Key Manager front end, or both. Key Manager back ends run the management engine and handle the management connections to and from the hosts under management, whereas front ends provide the web-based Key Manager GUI and API.

For production environments, we recommend that you run the database, front ends, and back ends on individual machines. For distributing the server load and for increased system reliability, multiple back ends and front ends may be installed as part of a single Key Manager system.
